The activities

  • Study of the physico-chemical and mechanical properties of the construction materials (stones and mortars) located at the seashore section of the Venetian Walls in Chania.

  • Recognation of the decay pattern and detection of the decay products observed in the construction materials of the Venetian fortifications. Estimation of the conservation state of the fortifications

  • Selection of suitable stones for the replacement of the decyed ones, where it will be justed necessary.

  • Synthesis of repair mortars compatible to the original ones for conservative interventions. Evaluation of the repair mostars both in laboratory experiments and in-situ pilot applications.

  • Proposal to apply traditional and quick photogrammetry techniques to survey the architectonic characteristic of the walled towns selected as case studies.

  • Suggestion to integrate and assess the DYMIS (Dynamic Modular Information System) on a Pilot test site.

  • Survey of the old wall

  • Organization of the second Meeting of the Project

  • Experimentation of an integrated geometrical survey for the creation of a 3D model.

  • Realization of a brief publication and a CD-Rom for the documentation and valorisation of the walls of Chania

  • Creation of a local section of Web Site of the Project.
