Lines of research
developed during last three years by research teams of
ITABC
-
Project ARCHEOVR: cognitive and visual
interaction models for the three-dimensional
reconstruction of the archaeological landscape (micro
and macro scale). The research activity was focused
on GIS and remote sensing applications to archaeology (from
satellites and aerial photos) and on virtual
reconstructions of archaeological landscapes based on
space and remotely sensed data. In addition to
multispectral remote sensing, microtopographic
processing of spatial data was applied to the creation
of archaeological DTM using total laser stations.
-
Projects IT environments for the
acquisition, synthesis and transfer or knowledge for the
conservation of historical buildings. The idea was
to converge on the fundamental theme of the preparation
of instruments for a knowledge and evaluation of the
state of conservation of the building heritage. The
general aim consisted in defining an overall framework
for the organization of historical buildings for the
purpose of conservation and management through
multiscale approaches.
-
Project Integrated systems for the
analysis, documentation and enhancing of the building
heritage. The objective of project was to develop
methods and integrated procedures for the historical and
physical documentation of historical buildings and of
anthropogeographic landscapes as a basis for
conservation and enhancement projects. The activity
carried out was focused on the development of the themes
of the ARAMIS European project, aimed at the study and
enhancement of water mills and canalizations systems
spread by the Arabs through the Mediterranean. The
activity was divided into three main parts:
Cataloguing and systematic surveying of the mills by
means of metric and photogrammetric survey;
Conservation and museal action on three ancient mills (Spain,
Crete, Malta);
Construction of the Water and Water Mill Museum in the
Arab Norman castle of Castellammare del Golfo.
-
Project Advanced technology for the
Study, conservation and enjoyment of archaeological
sites and monuments. An application of the research
theme was the Project for the restoration of the
monumental complex of Khor Fhori, Oman Sultanate. During
2000 the new archaeological investigations took in three
different areas of the monumental complex of Khor Rhori.
Furthermore, work was started on the geometric
measurement of all the archaeological structures in the
future park.
